The Five Best Self-Tanners 2016

I’m slightly obsessed with self-tanners, because it’s pretty much life changing for me when I have a ‘faux tan’!  I’m also aware of the danger posed by tanning beds and what too much sun can do to your skin.  Plus, I’m really fair. And when I say fair, I don’t mean beautiful porcelain white skin…I’m talking chalky, not cute, white skin.

Fair or olive toned- who doesn’t feel better with a little color on their body? Which is why I’m excited to share my current favorites with you. After much exfoliation and application of many self-tanners, here are the five that made the “It List,” a.k.a the “Laura List.”

*All five had to meet the following requirements: Easy to apply, doesn’t smell like self-tanner, have a beautiful golden color, doesn’t streak, fades nicely, dries fast, and is not sticky.

St.Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse in Dark – $44

Why I love: Has a nice smell (apparently it’s a mood-boosting fragrance, I’m still not sure if its my golden tan or the smell that boosts my mood 😉 ). It gives an instant glow, but full color comes in 4-8 hours. Also comes in Classic (light).

Jergens Natural Glow Tanning Mousse in Deep Bronze – $12

Why I love: Great price point that won’t break the bank! It also comes in Light Bronze and I’ve tried that as well. It gives a really nice subtle color. It’s a perfect one to start with if you’ve never tried a self-tanner before.

Tanwise Bronzing Mousse in Medium (Wash-Off) – $12

Why I love: I tried this product because it was recommended by many of you! It is inexpensive and I bought the Wash-Off Bronzing Mousse and Original because they were buy one, get one free at Sally’s Beauty. I think it’s nice to have the option of temporary color instead of long-lasting color like other self-tanners. For example, what if you’re staying at someone’s house for the weekend. You can’t get self-tanner all over their sheets. (I know this because it’s happened to me.) Now you don’t have to forgo your golden tan, you can just rinse it off before you go to bed! It comes in Light and Dark as well. The medium is perfection though.

Vita Liberata Luxury Tan pHenomenal 2-3 Week Tan Mousse & Rapid Mousse – $50

Why I love: Zero self-tan smell, it actually has ‘Odour Remove Technology’…Impressive. I love both the Rapid and pHenomenal 2-3 week Mousse. The Rapid gives instant color and your tan develops fully in 1-3 hours, really helpful for last minute planning.  Where as the pHenomenal mousse is the normal 8ish hours to fully develop and says it lasts up to 2-3 weeks. It lasts longer for me than any other tanning product, but not two weeks. Vita Liberata prides themselves on being the first non-toxic tanning brand.

Loreal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Towelettes $9

Why I love: They are so convenient and I love them for travel. It’s nice to throw a couple in your bag or suitcase and go. They are also good for touch-ups. For example after applying your self-tanner for a trip it’s nice to have something in case you missed a spot or need a little touch-up. I’ve used it with the Jergens and Tanwise and you can’t tell the difference.

I prefer tanning mousse vs lotion only because in my personal experience I like the application better and I’ve always experienced less streaking. All five of the products come in lotion form, if that’s your preference.
